چکیده
Southeast Asia’s complex geological history and highly variable geography and ecology provide an ideal template for testing the effects of geographical change on phylogenetic processes (Brown & Guttman, 2002; Evans et al., 2003; Jansa et al., 2006; Esselstyn et al., 2009). More specifically, the Philippine archipelago, spanning components of the Sundaland–Eurasian and Biodiversity Institute and Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS 66045, USA, Herpetology Section, Zoology Division, Philippine National Museum, Rizal Park, Burgos St., Manila, Philippines

A New Species of Scincid Lizard (genus Sphenomorphus) from Palawan Island, Philippines
A new species of medium-sized Sphenomorphus is described from the biogeographically enigmatic island of Palawan in the western Philippines. This species represents only the third skink in the genus Sphenomorphus found on Palawan Island. The new species is compared with other Sphenomorphus found on Palawan and with phenotypically similar species in the genus from throughout its range. To aid in ...
متن کاملThree new species of the genus Brachinus Weber, 1801 from the Philippines, with a modified key to species (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Brachininae).
Three new Brachinus species namely B. grootaerti n. sp. (Palawan Island), B. palawanensis n. sp. (Palawan Island), B. mindanaoensis n. sp. (Mindanao Island) from Philippines were described. In addition, a modified key to the known Brachinus Philippine species is provided.
متن کاملSYNTHESIS Integrating phylogenetic and taxonomic evidence illuminates complex biogeographic patterns along Huxley’s modification of Wallace’s Line
Aim Nearly 150 years ago, T. H. Huxley modified Wallace’s Line, including the island of Palawan as a component of the Asian biogeographic realm and separating it from the oceanic Philippines. Although Huxley recognized some characteristics of a transition between the regions, Palawan has since been regarded primarily as a peripheral component of the Sunda Shelf. However, several recent phylogen...
متن کاملHuman Infections with Plasmodium knowlesi, the Philippines
Five human cases of infection with the simian malaria parasite Plasmodium knowlesi from Palawan, the Philippines, were confirmed by nested PCR. This study suggests that this zoonotic infection is found across a relatively wide area in Palawan and documents autochthonous cases in the country.
